What a cookie is here

A cookie is a small file this website asks your browser to keep. We also use your browser’s local storage, which works the same way for our purposes and is covered by everything below.

When you first arrive you are asked to confirm you are 20 or older, and then offered Accept all, Reject all or Cookie settings. Rejecting costs you nothing on this site — no page and no feature is withheld. You can change your mind at any time from Manage cookies in the footer.

Essential — always on

These make the site work. They cannot be switched off and they carry no analytics.

wh_age_ok	local storage, 12 months · Records that you confirmed you are 20 or over, so the age gate does not ask again on every page. Stores the word “yes” and nothing else — not your age, not your date of birth.
wh_cookie_consent	local storage, 12 months · Records which of the three choices you made, so we do not ask again. Stores three true/false values.

Analytics — off unless you switch it on

Anonymous counts of which pages are read and for how long, so we know whether anyone reads this one. No profile is built and nothing is shared with an advertising network.

_wh_sess	session · Ties a run of page views together as one visit. Cleared when you close the browser.
_wh_stat	13 months · Distinguishes a returning visitor from a new one. Holds a random number, not a name.

Marketing — off unless you switch it on

Used only to tell whether an advertisement led to a booking enquiry.

_wh_conv	90 days · Records that an enquiry was sent, so the same advertisement is not counted twice.

Third parties

This site loads no third-party scripts, no advertising pixels, no social media widgets and no external fonts. Every stylesheet, script, typeface and image is served from whiteheath.com. That is unusual and deliberate.

Turning them off in the browser instead

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear local storage: in Chrome, Edge and Firefox under Settings → Privacy; in Safari under Preferences → Privacy. If you clear ours, the age gate and the cookie banner will ask again on your next visit, because the record that you answered is the thing you deleted.
