Reception answers the telephone at any hour of the day or night. The shuttle runs to the Octagon on the half hour. The Town Belt short cut is lovely and should not be attempted in the wet.

Reception is staffed twenty-four hours a day. Enquiries sent overnight are answered before ten the following morning; anything sent during the day usually comes back within a couple of hours. Nothing on this form is automated and nothing goes to a call centre.

Reception is staffed twenty-four hours. The concierge desk is open 7am to 10pm, and after that the night manager will do what can be done at that hour, which is more than you would think.
Runs to the Octagon on the half hour between 7am and 11pm, free to house guests, and will collect you from anywhere in the central city if you telephone reception.
Getting here
- By airDunedin Airport at Momona is 29 km and about 35 minutes. A car is NZ$95 one way and must be booked the day before; the airport bus runs to the Octagon and we will collect you from there.
- By carFrom State Highway 1 north, exit at Pine Hill and follow the signs for the Town Belt; from the south, up Stuart Street and left at the top. Twenty-two free spaces on the lower drive, first come. Royal Terrace itself is steep, unrestricted and usually full.
- By trainDunedin Railway Station is sixteen minutes on foot downhill and about NZ$14 in a taxi coming back up, which is what most people do with luggage.
- On footThe Octagon is nine minutes down and closer to fifteen back up. There is a short cut through the Town Belt that is lovely, unlit, and not to be attempted in the wet.
- AccessibilityLevel entrance from the lower drive, lift to all floors except the Gable Apartments, two fully accessible Belt Rooms with roll-in showers. Tell us at booking and we will make sure the right room is held.
What the desk will actually do
Book the albatross colony, which needs a time slot and sells out in January. Get you onto a peninsula tour with a driver who knows where the sea lions are lying that week. Find a table somewhere else in town when we are full, and be honest about which restaurants are worth it. Arrange a car, a courier, a doctor, a bunch of flowers, or a taxi at four in the morning.
It will also tell you, without being asked twice, that the weather is about to turn and that today is a museum day rather than a Tunnel Beach day. That is the part of the job the desk is proudest of.
